Finding the Right ‘Rug’

Piggy Bank July 1st, 2009

Funny that we had to make three succeeding trips to IKEA weeks back just to get the ‘right’ area rugs.  We needed two and got two different kinds during our first visit, which turned out to look funny when we laid them on the floor.

The following weekend, we had the smaller one replaced with the same type as the bigger one that we got but in different color.  Again, when we got home, they didn’t look nice at all.

My very patient husband agreed to go back a third time, to replace that rug and get exactly the same kind as the one that we first got.  Finally, we went home happy.  Sigh.  Imagine if we are designing our very own home?  I wonder how many trips we’ll make to furniture and design shops?

Whatever Will Be, Will Be

Piggy Bank June 28th, 2009

I know it is too early to even give it a serious thought but my earlier conversation with another mom at church made me think about my future.  As in my future, when my kids are all going to the Big School.

I’m thinking that by that time, I will most likely be working.  I’m not sure if I want to or can go back to the same industry I left almost two years ago.  But the urge to do something productive for myself will surely top my list of priorities when that time comes.

Right now, I don’t have the same interest anymore in I.T. (Information Technology) save for the little stuff I do on my computer.  But to learn a new software or learn software development is so far from my mind.

Well, all these are passing thoughts and as I’ve said, it’s way too early to even think about these things.   Most of all, who knows what the future holds?

Life’s Like That

Piggy Bank June 28th, 2009

No matter how serious things get in our lives, I believe that we shouldn’t lose our faith in God and yes, even our sense of humor.  Imagine how dry life would be like if we live everyday wearing a poker face, or worse, a frown?

Although some stages in life are more challenging than others, we shouldn’t let go of having a bit of fun or a bit of laughter.  Not the kind of laughter that will make people think that your losing it (Ha!).  Or that crazy laughter that will make you wet your pants (and wear adult diapers.. Boo!)

But seriously, it’s good to always keep a positive attitude in life.  So go on, smile and laugh some more.

Home Away From Home

Piggy Bank June 28th, 2009

I love the area where we live right now.  The house that we are renting sits in a quiet neighborhood.  The church and shopping centre are just 10 minutes away.  Right now, our friends live in the same suburb, which is an added bonus.

The nearby mall is big enough to house the popular shops like Target and Big W, as well as a huge outlet for the supermarket giant Woolworth’s.  I don’t doubt that you can find most if not all your basic needs in that shopping centre.  Who knows, you may even find the best diet pills at a drug store there.

We are not sure though how long we’ll be in this suburb.  When the right time comes for us to invest in our very own home, we might consider neighboring areas that should be equally good if not better.

Skin Changes During Pregnancy

Piggy Bank June 27th, 2009

During my first pregnancy, I experienced a bad case of acne especially on my forehead area.  I remember complaining to my O&G how itchy they were but she said they seem pregnancy-induced, hence, will disappear in time.  Surely, they were gone as soon as I reached my second trimester. I could not help but be worried at that time because pregnant women are discouraged to have any form of acne treatments and I felt so uncomfortable with the redness and itchiness.

Sleeping Challenges

Piggy Bank June 27th, 2009

Six months into my pregnancy and I started having more difficulty in sleeping.  It takes me about 30 minutes to find a comfortable sleeping position and as soon as I feel sleepy, I need to be up again for bladder break!  I’m glad that we have a mattress that’s really good for my back, as it is not too soft and not too hard.  Although I have no idea whether a sleep number bed will be more helpful, I’m content with the comfort our current bed gives me.

My Future Hobbies Room

Piggy Bank June 27th, 2009

I would love to have my very own ‘hobbies’ room someday.  It will be my ‘hideaway’, a place in our home where I can relax and unwind.  There will be a nook for all my crafts supplies.  Scissors, sticky tape caddies or box cutters have no place in a common room where my toddler plays.

The room will have a neutral scheme so that I can hang photos and paintings on the wall.  There will be a dedicated space for my music, of course.  I would love to have surround speakers set-up around the room.  There will be small indoor plants, too.  Sigh.  It’s so nice to dream.

A Planned Productive Weekend

Piggy Bank June 26th, 2009

This weekend is a major house cleaning day for us.  We’ve got some major scrubbing and mopping to do, with our kitchen, master’s bedroom and main bathroom as our focus.  Our window sills, bathtub and faucets (which I wish were as easy to clean as Delta faucets) have been needing attention for weeks!

Thankfully, the weather forecast seems to cooperate with our plan with mostly sunny weather over the weekend.  I’m looking forward to a productive weekend.

It’s Free to Dream

Strawberry Fields June 19th, 2009

I’m keeping an open mind when it comes to work options when my youngest starts the big school.  I can join the workforce once more, do I.T. work again, or start a career in a new field.  But I’m hoping that by then I can put up a small business instead that will allow me to earn from my hobby and get more flexible working hours.

I’m excited to think about having my own business.  And I hope setting it up (getting licenses and acquiring a business insurance) will be easy so that my focus will be in developing my marketing plan and selling my product or skills.

Seasons Come and Go

Piggy Bank June 10th, 2009

Last weekend, we were at the mall again to have a newly bought rug replaced.  Unfortunately, I went unprepared for a mall wide sale!  I was so keen to check-out the toy stores but I controlled myself and prioritized to get what we came for.  There were also lot of winter clothes and shoes marked down and even if winter just started, the stores are already gearing up for the Spring-Summer seasons.  By then we’ll see sports clothes (e.g. equestrian apparel), swimming outfits on the window displays.  This reminds me of the phrase, “Seasons come and go.”
